Where Dreams Come True. Albeit hefty, Fuel City's slogan is accurate. The tacos and elote they offer are worth dreaming about, but some of their other street food offerings include loaded burritos. This is the best place in Dallas to get street tacos, full stop.
At $1.49 a taco, Fuel City is already too good to be true. Throw in incredible salsas made from secret recipes in-house and their fresh elote, and this gas station is the place to go for tacos at any time of day or night. I've been going here for years, and although I love other street tacos, Fuel City rules in time and convenience.
Dallas has some strong street taco contenders like El Si Hay in Oak Cliff, Tacos La Banqueta, and El Come Taco. Although each joint has delicious tacos, Fuel City has consistently large portions of well-seasoned meats and fresh salsas. With two registers, the lines here go faster than any other place I've been, so you don't have to wait an hour for a few tacos (cough cough, El Si Hay). The lines can get pretty long around midnight and past 2am, because these tacos are the perfect drunk food.
As a Fuel City veteran, I've developed a handy process to maximize my experience here. A full service gas station with a drive-thu window and car wash, I suggest ordering your tacos first, then getting elote, and buying something to drink while your heavenly meal is being made. In terms of which tacos to order, I love chicken, barbacoa, and beef fajita with onion, cilantro, lime, verde salsa, and red hot salsa. I'm also a heathen who loves elote on my tacos, a habit I've been nearly excommunicated for. If it's your first time, try one of each, and don't be afraid of loading up on lime and salsa.
Now go get yours to see what I'm taco'ing about.
